Re 1984 Coachmen Senator 32-foot class A with Chevy 454 engine.

Customer Question

Re: 1984 Coachmen Senator 32-foot class A with Chevy 454 engine. How many batteries should it have and where are they located? Is there a diode isolator for charging them and where is it located? Engine battery appears to be on a shelf on right side of coach and right side of large storage compartment. Thanks.

Hi, this is Michael. There should be 1 engine battery, and at least 1 house battery. The isolator is normally located up in front under the 'hood' area. Follow the positive line to the engine battery to the isolator. It may be a solenoid type which is mechanical. Then follow the other lead to the house battery location...........If the wires are gone we can reconfigure it together...........Please accept my answer this page, and get back to me .......Michael

Michael, Having motorhomed and maintained my own for some 30 years, and being an electronics engineer by trade I do know how to trace wires and how to reverse engineer the battery system. What I was hoping for was an answer from the maintenance book like the engine battery is located HERE and the house battery is located HERE and the isolator (diode or solenoid) is located HERE. No electrics, just physical locations so I don't have to explore the whole coach on my back. Your answer is of no value to me at this time.

Your welcome,I often with the rv industry was more sophisticated. They are getting better, but some of the older stuff is lost to history.......And I'm one of the old guies. So I know right up front I need to slug it out on my own..............Thanks........Michael

Michael was very friendly and understood my questions and replies. But he told me nothing I did not already know. Consequently I am no better off now than I was before I contacted you. To pay for learning "I can't help" seems a bit much, even if that is genuinely true (and I think it is). You may return the $15 to my card.

Hi, Michael again, contact customer service for your return of deposit.......Thanks. Maybe next time...............Michael

In that case I will accept the answer as I have more important things to do just now. Have a nice lunch on me. I need to close the book on this issue. The motorhome in question has been sold to a new owner and he can wrestle with it. He is well qualified to do so and knows what he is getting into.

Thank you that is very kind........................Michael
