I have a 2004/itasca-c/spirit/mh 322r-rb 0. Im having a problem w/aux-batteries not charging. The batteries are new. When I run the it aux-batties do charge, but for some reason it does not hold a full charge the next day. My inidcator will show full and the next day it will drop to 2/3 charge. Also does my refrig run off the aux-battery too?

Are you plugged into shore power 30 or 50 AMP?

Thanks.

No dry campingwhat might be causing the batteries to drain so fast even after a charge?
RV Mechanic: Robert, RV Mechanic replied 14 years ago

OK

This sounds pretty normal. The batteries will depleted depending on what you are running in the RV, if the inverter is on and you are using your roof AC, TV or microwave the battery voltage will go down faster, even using 12 volt lighting will allow the batteries to slowly go down. The fridge dose require a 12 volt signal to the control board to operate, even on gas mode. You will have to try to start the generator for a short period of time to re-charge the batteries, I have seen batteries drain even more then what you are describing overnight dry camping. IF you are leaving the RV you can shut your inverter off and shut the house dis-connect switch off to help the batteries maintain, you would loose power to the fridge but it should be able to keep things cool for a couple hours.

where is the inverter located?
Customer reply replied 14 years ago
Is the inverter located next to the fuses inside the coach? thanks
RV Mechanic: Robert, RV Mechanic replied 14 years ago

OK

Your RV will have a Power Converter or a Inverter. Normally the inverters are located on the exterior in one of the bays. The Power Converters are normally located in the interior of the coach. A very easy way is to trace the main battery cable off the auxiliary batteries, this should go right to the inverter or power converter. I Just got your reply, it sounds like you do have a Power Converter, allot of times there will be fuses located in it OR next to it. Also check your main breakers, there should be a breaker for this component you can simply turn the breaker off.

should I turn on this breaker when Im recharging the aux-batteries when using the generator or electrcity?
RV Mechanic: Robert, RV Mechanic replied 14 years ago

YES..

This should only be turned off if you are going to be out of the unit for any length of time. A good test would be to turn it off at night and then turn it back on in the morning and see if your battery voltage drops to 2/3 again. Dry Camping can be difficult when only trying to run off the batteries. Many systems require 12 volts to operate, even with propane. I am afraid there is no way around this, the generator will have to be ran daily or every other day to charge the batteries up, it may not take long but it is kind of a hassle. If you have any other questions or concerns always feel free to contact me.
