Resolved Question:

I've known him for over 2 years. We know each other very well....he does this and we've worked through it before. I know I can't change his mind but question if I should leave him alone or try to work through it again.

Perhaps the real question is whether you want to go through life dealing with these episodes.

If you give him too much attention when he does this, he'll know he can get to you with this behavior...a bad precedent. I would advise leaving him alone to figure out that he's over-reacted.

In general, reward good behavior, ignore bad behavior. If he over-reacts, let him stew. If he talks about his feelings, reinforce this behavior with lots of attention. Here' s an article you might find helpful
