I installed Roku yesterday and it took over my television…

Customer Question
I installed Roku yesterday...

I installed Roku yesterday and it took over my television set. I lost access to all my cable and broadcast channels. I thought Roku was a supplement to those channels, not a replacement. Is there a way to have both?

Technician's Assistant: What Roku model do you have?

SKU#3800R

Technician's Assistant: What have you tried so far with your Roku media player?

My wife watched programs on Netflix last night. When she finished, I tried to switch to the 10:00 PM news and could not do so.

Technician's Assistant: Anything else you want the TV Expert to know before I connect you?

I also tried to sign in on HBO and found that, because I have a # in my password ***** was unable to sign in. After two tries I gave up.

Welcome to the site! I'm Dan, and I'd be happy to help.

Roku is a supplemental device. We should be able to maintain functionality of it, and your other entertainment sources.

Do you have a cable box? What type of cable does it use to connect w/the TV?

Dan

I'm not knowledgeable about this stuff. The one cable is marked HDMI out to TV
Another cable is marked DC IN 19.5vAmerican Express rejected the earlier charge of $21.00, but I told them
the charge was legitimate. If you rebill the charge, it should go through.Phil

I do have a cable box.Phil
Electronics Technician: Dan T., Master Technician replied 1 month ago

OK, great.

On the back of your TV, are your Roku and your cable box connected to different inputs? If so, can you switch between the two? You'll want to use the "Source" or "Input" button on the remote (or the TV itself).

Being an amateur, I just unplugged each and switched them.
I hope I have screwed up the whole thing

Electronics Technician: Dan T., Master Technician replied 1 month ago

Sorry if I was unclear, Phil. I meant to use the TV's remote to swap from one input to another, to see if both inputs are still active.

As I said, I'm an amateur. I switched the plugs. When I got
your recent message, I went to the TV remote and hit the
TV remote. The took me to a screen that showed
TV HDMI 1/MHL HDMI 2
The HDMI 2 is highlighted as it was last night when it was
showing ROKU. Right now it is still highlighted and
showing HDMI 2, but the TV is now showing the regular
channels. When I try to use the up and down signals to
move to TV or to HDMI !/ MHL, the signal doesn't move.
The regular channels appear to be back, but I don't know
what happened to the ROKU.
Electronics Technician: Dan T., Master Technician replied 1 month ago

I'm sure Roku is still there. It's just available on another input (wherever you connected it). If you moved the Roku to HDMI3, then select HDMI3 and you should see the Roku signal. If you'd rather watch the normal TV channels, then use the remote to switch back to that input.

Does that answer your question?

I've tried unsuccessfully to move the cursor from HDMI 2 to HDMI 1/MHL
or TV but the cursor appears stuck at HDMI 2 and won't move in either
direction. I had the same problem last night when I thought that the
regular channels might be under TV, but the cursor wouldn't move from
HDMI 2. It's the same tonight. Even without understanding the technology
last night, I thought that if I could move the cursor to TV, I'd get the TV
channels, but I couldn't get the cursor to move.

Dan helped me part way home but I still have the issue that TV set
(a SONY) is stuck in HDMI 2 and I can't get the cursor to move. The other issue I raised with my initial inquiry is that the HBO
register function did not have a button for the # and therefore
I couldn't tell them my password. At the moment the frozen cursor is the major problem.Phil
Electronics Technician: Harry, Customer Service replied 1 month ago

Do you see an INPUT button on the TV itself? If you keep pressing it, it will cycle through the inputs (HDMI1, HDMI2, etc)

Ask Your Own Recorders and Players Question
Customer reply replied 1 month ago
I found the button on the back of the TV and used it to cycle through
the various options. However, the remote control is still stuck on
HDMI 2. Using the buttons on the back of the TV each time we
want to switch from TV to ROKU is a nuisance. I presume there's
a way to get the remote to do this job.I'm still interested in finding out how to register with
HBO when my password ***** a # in it.Thanks.Phil

Which remote as you using?

Ask Your Own Recorders and Players Question
Customer reply replied 1 month ago
The Infinity (Comcast) remote, not the SONY.
Customer reply replied 1 month ago
I just used the SONY TV remote and was able to switch between
regular channels and ROKU. A nuisance, but maybe that's the
best we can do.
Electronics Technician: Harry, Customer Service replied 1 month ago

Yes, you need to use the TV remote

Ask Your Own Recorders and Players Question
Customer reply replied 1 month ago
After using the SONY remote to cycle through the various options,
I turned off the TV set using the SONY remote. Then I turned on the
TV set using the Infinity (Comcast) remove. The set opened up the
standard channels using HDMI 2 (the remote again could not move
the cursor), But then I started getting banners running across the
screen while the TV was working. The banner at the top of the screen
had icons that represented things like: LED Bass Reflex Speak
Photo Frame Mode HDMI x2 and others. Also, another banger
ran across the bottom of the screen that was marked Clean Resolution
Enhancer. Off to the side was the word Off. I found that if I used the Infinity
TV Input button, I could get these banners to disappear. But after a few
minutes they returned. Things seem to be going from bad to worse.
Electronics Technician: Harry, Customer Service replied 1 month ago

You need to cycle through the inputs.
