I need instructions to replace the drive belt for an akai x

Customer Question

I need instructions to replace the drive belt for an akai x 5000 w tape deck
JA: Can you guesstimate how old your Akai is? And just to clarify, what's the exact model?
Customer: probably 25 years old it is a x 2500 w model reel to reel
JA: How long has this been going on? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: it runs slow even after oiling all parts...and belt is quite loose
JA: Anything else you want the electronics expert to know before I connect you?

Hi welcome to just answer.

Inside the tape deck there is a drawing of where the belt goes. This will be the first place I will check. I could not find any service manual for this online. The other suggestion will be to take a picture of the existing belt route before removing it. Once you remove the belt, you measure it and order replacement. You should also replace the belt driving wheel also.
