Customer Question

I have a Phillips ga 406 automatic turntable (rather vintage I dare say, but it works, well, up until now). For whatever reason I took the SPINDLE out recently and now I can not for the life of me get it back in so that the turntable will play. The manual say "insert and turn closswise until no further", but once it is in the grove, it does not turn either way, so it just appears to be loose in the hole.

You will have to push down on it while turning clockwise

Expert:  Jack replied 11 months ago.

These were normally spring loaded and/or there is a lock clip that you have to go past while turning .

It may take a bit of weight to achieve this , push down on it with enough weight , dont worry , you wont break it

You may also have to close the 3 arms that holds the album before you do

I've ;pushed and turned with a lot of force but it does not seem to set in place and still seems loose. Let me try one more time and I'll be right back.

Try to close those arms before you do

Try turning counter clockwise to see

Expert:  Jack replied 11 months ago.

Do you still have that pin sticking out at the bottom on the spindle ?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I've tried clockwise and counter clockwise, with and without the arms pinched. The pin at the bottom Ive pushed in to see if it is free, and it must be spring loaded as it returns to its down and flush with the bottom position, but still no luck

Difficult to say then from where i`m sitting , i`m out of idea and will opt out

Perhaps someone here has an idea on this

You don`t have to do anything , your question will be reposted for other techs. to see and jump in.
Please just standby and someone should be with you shortly .

Good luck with that

Roger. I'm wondering if the Start/Stop switch might be part of the problem, although I wouldn't think it would be. The spindle just will not turn left or right once it slides down in the detent.
