In 2004 my mother sold her house, after my father passed
Hi In 2004 my mother sold her house, after my father passed away. She took her money from the sale of the house and invested in an attached casita and three car garage to the already built home of my sister and brother in law. She has passed away and my sister has sold the house due to close June 5. We are entitled to half of the casita and three car garage. We know my mother had $220,000 which was put into an account, at that time, to fund the construction of casita and three car garage. My sister is insisting we figure the amount owed by the sq footage of the casita and garage. After consulting two appraisers (one who did the actual appraisal on my sisters house) we were told it could not big figured by sq footage because there are too many variables, but instead by the amount my mother put into the construction, again which we are assuming was the $220,000 as that was what we were told then. My sister refuses to show any paperwork about the construction and was irate when we said we feel we are owed $110,000 which is half what my mother invested. We are in need of advice on this as the time for the house to close is coming and this has to be paid to us at close of escrow on my sisters home. Thank you for your time! … read more
