July will be a year I am renting a condo at 121 Waterway Ct.
Sorry didn't want to hit return, lets start over. I am a school teacher at Lexington High School and a single mother of 3. I moved to SC for my husband's job in June 2019. In June 2020, my husband asked for a divorce. I am from Louisiana and have no family other than the great teachers and a few friends I have obtained along the way through my children's sports. July will be a year I am renting a condo at***** Unit # 15-A. I have always paid the rent way before it is due. The laws of SC or different from Louisiana and I can not just return to Louisiana. I do love SC and the school system is excellent. It is cheaper for me to build than to rent therefore, I am building a home. Due to Covid lumber shortage, my house which, was scheduled for completion in July has not begun and I am being told the house will not be ready until October. The slab has been poured since March. I have asked to continue renting on a month to month basis but have been denied, with no reason. In speaking to the office, I am being told the HOA rules and regulations state no short term rentals are allow. However, I am now writing to ask for an extension through October. The Stanley Morgan Contractor has assured me the house will be completed in October as lumber is now coming in. The Hammock Bay Owners' Association, Inc rules and regulations also state the Board discretion determines that all rules and regulations and/or addendums may be changed at any time by the HBOA board. I HAVE NO WEAR TO GO WITH MY CHILDREN and making me vacate the condo will render my children and I homeless until the house is built. My children have been through so much, leaving friends and family in La to move to SC and a year later my husband asking for a divorce, having to move and move again would only further devastate them emotionally and me financially. My husband still owes me 2 months of rent and if it were not for my parents, I don't know what the children and I would do! I understand COVID is not completely over and I was wondering if there was any rules still in place that would give me the right to continue renting until the completion of our home? … read more
