I had a wooden carport built in the city of Oakland, finished

Customer Question

I had a wooden carport built in the city of Oakland, finished this week, and I did not a city permit. It is located right in front of my garage and must be torn down or moved 5 feet to the left of my garage, which make no sense.
When I drive around Oakland, all other carports are positioned like my new one. Does the property owner have any rights as to the location when the location is not bothering others?
