I have an HP...

I have an HP OfficeJet 6700 Premium printer which is now displaying "The printhead appears to be missing, not detected or incorrectly installed." What do I do?

Technician's Assistant: How are you connecting to your OfficeJet: wirelessly or by USB?

By USB from my desktop.

Technician's Assistant: When did you last update the printer driver software?

I don't know that i ever have & never knew about it.

Technician's Assistant: Anything else you want the Printer Expert to know before I connect you?

This is something to do with the hardware so we don't need remote assistance.

Ok, let's not do the remote assistance. Please just tell me what i need to do.

1) take out cartridges
2) take out printhead
3) disconnect power and USB cable from back of printer while turned on
4) move power cord to wall
5) clean the electrical contacts on the carriage, printhead, and cartridges with water.
6) power on unit without parts
