Hi I am unable to use the scanner, do I need a telephone line in order to use the scanner?

Technician's Assistant: Is there an error code on your printer when you try to scan?

No, it just says check connection

Technician's Assistant: When did you last update the printer driver software?

Its been a while I recently moved disconnected everything and now trying to set it back up

You don't need a telephone cable to use scanner. But you need to have latest drivers and software installed. On your computer, open this website --> http://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadlist.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=mfcj410w_us&os=10013

Download the "Full Driver & Software Package"

Open the downloaded file and install it. Once you install it, you will see an app named Epson Scan. Open Epson Scan and you will be able to scan.
