Color ink cartridge no longer works

It keeps saying remove and reinstall. It was working when I first received it, I've removed and reinstalled.

NO, I'm not paying that much! Is this some kinda scam? My cartridge was working fine when I got it now I'm having issues and need to pay a crazy amount of money to fix it. I already pay the monthly cartridge fee.
