I have a HP...

I have a HP Photosmart 6525 connected wirelessly to a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 computer running Windows 10. It works fine when printing but when I try to scan to the PC, I get a message saying it cannot find to the PC and to check the USB connection. There is no USB connection.

Technician's Assistant: Is there an error code on your HP printer when you try to scan?

No

Technician's Assistant: When did you last update the printer driver software?

I never updated it. I connected the printer to the PC and it prints ok.

Technician's Assistant: Anything else you want the Printer Expert to know before I connect you?

The new PC does not have a CD reader. If I have to update the software can it be done from HP website?

I unplugged the printed and after 2 minutes I plugged it in again.

Please check the following

1.From your printer’s control panel, touch the Wireless icon.

2. Touch Settings.

3. Touch Wireless Direct, touch On (No Security) or On (With Security).

4. Touch Display Name to display the Wireless Direct name.

5. Touch Display Password ***** display the Wireless Direct password ***** you have the Wireless Direct security on.

Before that connect a USB cable from the printer to the computer and then install it.

After completing it you can remove the USB

I don't have the proper USB cable to connect from the printer to the computer. I'll need to buy one. This will take about 1/2 hr. What steps do I need to take after I install the update? Can I use the instructions that came with the printer to accomplish what needs to be done?

That is correct.

Or since it is already connected to the router.

You can try running the file now, if that didn't work please use a USB then.
