Customer Question
Is WinZip an HP...

Is WinZip an HP product? I am having problems with obsolete drivers so can't update? Now I have to pay? My son said I shoud never have to pay for updating drivers? Help

Technician's Assistant: What's the brand, model, and Operating System (OS) of your computer?

HP Pavilion P6000 /series

Technician's Assistant: What have you tried so far with your computer?

All the updates from Win Zip to Tweak Bit ...things that show up on the screen. But I'm desperate now. My printer won't work and I have tried to update everything repeatedly but still insufficient.

Technician's Assistant: Anything else you want the Printer Expert to know before I connect you?

Well it is a driver issue I think...four drivers are not working. I don't know what else they control.

Hello and thank you for choosing JustAnswer. My name is ***** ***** I will be happy to help you.

WinZip is not an HP product. It is typically recommended to avoid Winzip actually. What version of windows is on your HP?

Ask Your Own Printers Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
I thought it was 7 but now think it is 10....saw something the other day. Where can I find?
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
It is Windows 7.
Technician: John Lohr, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 7 months ago

Does the start button look like a circle or is it square/rectangular?

Ask Your Own Printers Question
Technician: John Lohr, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 7 months ago

Is the only issue with the printer driver?

Ask Your Own Printers Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
It is a square. Are you with HP?
Technician: John Lohr, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 7 months ago

If it is square, then that leads me to believe it is Windows 8 or Windows 10.

This is JustAnswer.com, a paid support website. We are not directly associated with HP, but I can still help you

The issue is that win zip and tweak bit and others have been telling me to scan. So I have. But what comes up is four obsolete drivers. I do not know what the drivers are for. I thought if I updated them I could print. But my son said I should not have to pay for drivers.
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
I checked something and it said windows 7.
Technician: John Lohr, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 7 months ago

Your son is correct. I recommend avoiding both WinZip and TweakBit. It would be best to uninstall those.

In order for me to help you to get your printer up and running, can you tell me what kind of printer it is?

Ask Your Own Printers Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
sorry...got a phone call. It is not with the printer. It is with the drivers. Not being protected. Obsolete drivers.
Technician: John Lohr, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 7 months ago

That is correct, but I need to know the model of the printer to find the updated drivers for you

Ask Your Own Printers Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
HP Deskjet 2540
Technician: John Lohr, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 7 months ago

Thank you. While I find the updated driver, could you tell me if you use it wired or wireless? Also, while I am doing this, please do the following:

  1. Click the start button
  2. Click My Computer
  3. Click on "Uninstall or Change a Program" at the top
  4. In the search bar, type "HP"
  5. Uninstall software only related to the printer

Let me know when you are finished

it says HP media smart DVD
and
HP support information
Technician: John Lohr, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 7 months ago

Okay, you are good then.

Please click the start button, and then "Printers and Scanners" and remove your printer from the list by right-clicking it and selecting "delete"

Next, please go the the following link and click on "Go"

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-deskjet-2540-all-in-one-printer-series/5295960/model/5295961/drivers

On the page that appears after clicking go,download the package marked "Important" and install it please. This will walk you through setting up the printer again and install the updated drivers.

OK....that is done.
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
was it obsolete?
Technician: John Lohr, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 7 months ago

The new drivers are installed also?

Ask Your Own Printers Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
what other drivers? I only did HP printer....
Technician: John Lohr, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 7 months ago

That is correct. Is it now working?

Ask Your Own Printers Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
Sorry.....after the Go and Download I didn't do that part? Where can I find it? And how would I know if it were working?
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
I don't think the printer is working....a blue light is on and it normally isn't.
Technician: John Lohr, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 7 months ago

The file should have downloaded to your "Downloads" folder. You will just need to double click the file that downloaded to run it and it will walk you through installation.

Once done, you will just need to try to print

Ask Your Own Printers Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
There didn't appear to be anything to click on after I hit download so assumed it did it.
Technician: John Lohr, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 7 months ago

Correct, clicking download downloads the file and then you just need to run the file that downloaded by double clicking it

Ask Your Own Printers Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
Do I have to go to the downloads file? Then double click. Big question, how do I do that...get to the downloads file???
Technician: John Lohr, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 7 months ago

To get to the downloads folder:

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Computer
  3. Click "Downloads" on the left side
  4. The file will be called "DJ2540_188"
Ask Your Own Printers Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
OK...think I did it... Now on that downloads, there are four other drivers that say update and four that say booster? We only did the printer. I am testing it now, but? Should I unplug it and replug it?
Technician: John Lohr, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 7 months ago

Where does it say that?

And does the printer work now?

Ask Your Own Printers Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
It doesn't. Printer is still not working. What about the other drivers that Tweak Bit and Win Zip keep popping up? I saw in the downloads all the other options for booster and drivers.
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
I'm sorry to seem so "dumb" but I've had a computer since 1984 and they are more advanced than I'll ever need! The drivers the above keep telling me are obsolete are the ones I am concerned about.
Technician: John Lohr, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 7 months ago

Does it list what those drivers are?

Ask Your Own Printers Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
They are all .exe files.
Technician: John Lohr, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 7 months ago

What are the names of those files?

Ask Your Own Printers Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
driver booster.exe and driver update.exe
Technician: John Lohr, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 7 months ago

I would uninstall those programs. They often tell you you have obsolete drivers to try to get money from you

Ask Your Own Printers Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
Where are my real drivers?
Technician: John Lohr, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 7 months ago
  1. Click the start button
  2. In the search box, type "Run" and press enter
  3. In the Run box, type devmgmt.msc and press enter
  4. This window lists the hardware and drivers installed on your computer
Ask Your Own Printers Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
There was nothing under that? I have people coming to get C'mas trees and need a little help. Also have to run an errand...hang on...I'll be back.
Technician: John Lohr, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 7 months ago

That window should list all of the devices and drivers on your computer

Ask Your Own Printers Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
it came up but didn't have any list???
Technician: John Lohr, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 7 months ago

There is nothing at all? You may need to click on the first item in the list to expand it

what is the actual problem? what is it that you are having difficulty doing?

out of date drivers usually still work

its just one of those things that companies like to point at to say "oh you need our help your drivers are old"

so if you tell me exactly what it is that you want the computer to do and that it is not doing maybe we can start from there and see what the problem is and how to make it do what you want it to do.

Ask Your Own Printers Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
Thank you. 1) I kept getting messages that my drivers were obsolete. 2) we deleted win zip and tweak bit 3) we reinstalled the printer driver and deleted items in the outgoing box BUT, there should have been lots of them as I have been trying to print for days 3) there is one item in printer box that I don't recognize and it won't delete 4) got a message that my computer was no longer secure. Is that enough?
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
I have to leave at 12:30 CO time.
Technician: Robert M., Consultant replied 7 months ago

The message is probably an advertisement from somebody that wants to sell you a driver update finder. If it comes up when you are on the Internet I would ignore it

Rebooting the computer should clear the print queue

Or you can hit windows logo key and R

And type services.msc in the run box that pops up and click OK

Find print spooler in the services list that comes up and

Stop and then start it.

That also should clear it

If not stop it then delete the print job then restart it

The message about the computer being not secure is also either an advertisement or your anti virus upset that one of its features is not turned on

I am able to log in remotely and look at everything and get it all working for you if you are willing to pay a little extra. We can speak on the phone and you can show me everything and I will explain exactly what it is and fix it for you
