I just bought a replacement ink cartridge, 252. At home, I noted that the old one was 252-I. What is the difference? Will the new one work ?
JA: What is the exact make and model of your printer? And what kind of cartridges are you using?
Customer: Epson cartridges. Printer is Epson WorkForce-3640.
JA: What kind of computer are you printing from (Mac or PC)? What Operating System (OS) are you running?
Customer: Mac. Not sure how to identify the OS.
JA: How long has this been an issue? What happened right before this popped up?
Customer: Within the last few days. Don't know about "happened right before."

The "i" means it was the initial starter ink cartridge which only is used when you first buy the printer.

The new ink cartridge will work without any issues.
