Mg5400. Black printing double. Each characteris printed twice

Technician's Assistant: What's the make/model number of your printer? How old is it?

Pixma MG 5450. about 2 -3 yrs. The characters are offset horizontally about 1 milimeter apart. Colours are printing fine as are bold characters so I suspect it is just the smaller black cartridge. I've done an automatic head alignment and 2 manual alignment with no success. The back alignment results come out a bit like a saw tooth and Ive noticed on normal printing some of the ghost half of a character is sloping backwards. Hope that helps

A few months. Results ar the same fro all my laptops so it's not computer dependant

No. Not manually. However it seems to run automaticly when the machine is powered up after a long while switched off. At least it rattles away for ages as if its doing something useful

Unfortunately, the error that you are experiencing is an internal failure which would require repair/replacement. The bad news is that your printer is outside of warranty and it would cost more to repair the printer than to buy a new one.
