MFC J 471 10DW Just replaced black ink cartridge. Prints color Ok but does not print black. Cartrige is oem. How do I resolve issue OW

Technician's Assistant: What is the exact make and model of your printer? And what kind of cartridges are you using?

Brother MFC J471 10Dw Cartidge is gem Brother LC107bk

Technician's Assistant: What kind of computer are you printing from (Mac or PC)? What Operating System (OS) are you running?

I have run the cleaning program 3 times to no avail

Technician's Assistant: How long has this been an issue? What happened right before this popped up?

Printer has been out of black ink for perhaps a week. Took the cartridge out two days ago and replaced it today. Prior to this no problem

Alright. And you don't see any errors, just there is obviously no black printing? What was the error with the previous cartridge, did it read as low?

Alright. If there are no other problems with the printer it seems to me the only problem would be a bad cartridge. A lot of times people buy extra printer cartridges, they sit until out of warranty, and they are bad or go bad. Either way, the printer companies make a ton of money from the ink. The only other thing is if for some reason the print head clogged up, but since you used the printer just about a week ago, I don't see why that would happen. However, I can show you how to manually clean it (without wasting ink like the printer does when doing it automatically). I can show you, but still think the cartridge itself is the most likely problem.

The following video shows a way to manually clean the print head. This is the portion between the cartridge itself, and where the ink is actually exposed to the paper. Sometimes these jam. As mentioned, I think it is more the cartridge in your case, but it's a possibility if you got a new cartridge and still had a problem --

Make sure the printer is of. Instead of the cleaning solution, you can use standard Windex. If ink is clogged in the system, it will help dislodge it safely. Let it dry before plugging it back in. If you have any questions about this, please let me know! I will be happy to help.
