Just loaded all new brother ink cartridges and horrible smell when started printing during past hour.

Technician's Assistant: Can you guesstimate how old your Brother is? And just to clarify, what's the exact model?

MFC-j480DW. 4 months old.

Technician's Assistant: What kind of computer are you printing from (Mac or PC)? What Operating System (OS) are you running?

HP All in one. New. all controls for ink are on printer. Printer did cleaning cycle. Is there another maintenance t ask to do first before printing, Has been off for three weeks because of travel. power was off for two hours during storms in florida but no water or wind damage to our home in Jupiter.

Technician's Assistant: How long has this been an issue? What happened right before this popped up?

Yesterday, turned printer on but would not start. display window showed the four ink tubes with big X above each and said replace. Then replaced Black and tried to print but display turned off

Technician's Assistant: Anything else you want the Printer Expert to know before I connect you?

The x over the black but still on printing. Bought new color tubes today and installed and started to print 6 or 7 sheets from internet and email then smell.

One hour ago just after printing 3 or 4 pgs. from email in our home wireless network.

Ok - can you unplug the printer from the power supply while the printer is on and hold in the power button on it for 30 seconds.

cannot get to pwer supply unless t urn off all computer equipment at the moment. Had all on last night with no smell but no printing(would not print without new cart. display said. New color cartridges installed this morning then smell. Can wait for factory opening on Monday.

Can you try it with the ink out (the reset) and then turn it on, it will give you an error that there is no ink.

At this point put the ink back in the unit and see If this makes a difference for you
