I have an MX490...

I have an MX490 printer. I keep getting the message "If you continue printing without changing the setting, the print quality or speed may be affected. To change the setting, click on Cancel Printing. Then uncheck Prevent paper abrasion in the Custom Setting Dialog box under the Maintenance tab. How do I do this as the prints that I am getting are poor quality even though I just replaced the ink cartridges?

Technician's Assistant: What is the exact make and model of your printer? And what kind of cartridges are you using?

As I said the printer is a Canon MX490 and the cartridges are 245XL and 246XL.

Technician's Assistant: What kind of computer are you printing from (Mac or PC)? What Operating System (OS) are you running?

It is a PC operating Windows 10.

Technician's Assistant: How long has this been an issue? What happened right before this popped up?

This has been going on for some time now. I do not remember what happened right before.

Technician's Assistant: Anything else you want the printer expert to know before I connect you?

No. I just want better photo prints.

Please try below steps :-

  • Select Settings -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your model name icon, and then select Printing preferences from the displayed menu.The printer driver setup window appears.

Then,

Make sure that the printer is on, and then click Custom Settings on the Maintenance tab
