My Brother MFC-7840W photocopier is giving me a message:

my Brother MFC-7840W photocopier is giving me a message: DRUM END SOON. I only use it as a photocopier & not as a scanner or fax. Do I have to fix something.
JA: Just to clarify, what's the exact make and model of your machine?
Customer: MFC-7840W Brother
JA: What kind of computer are you printing from (Mac or PC)? What Operating System (OS) are you running?
Customer: It is not connected to my computer. It is only being used as a photo copier.
JA: How long has this been an issue? What happened right before this popped up?
Customer: I have had the message @ 2 weeks now. I changed the printer cartridge in the drum a week ago but still got the message. It is printing properly & I have not had anything unusual happen. But message on machine still says:" Drum ends soon"
JA: Anything else you want the printer expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: No

I'm sorry about the issue. Please try the following fix:

  1. Make sure that the printer is turned on.
  2. Open the printer's front cover (where you access the ink cartridges.)
  3. Press Clear or Clear/Back button on the printer. 
  4. Press key 1 to on the printer.
  5. When the printer's screen shows Accepted, close the printer's front cover.

It seems to have worked. "1" said replace drum. Did it replace it by itself?

Great. That only clears the drum end soon error message. You can still use the printer as long as it works fine. Only when needed, then you would replace the drum.
