Okay.....when the boot media cant be means that the hard drive has failed.

YOu have to replace the hard drive ......THEN you can put windows back on it.

How old is this computer.....are you seriously saying it was made back in the 90's

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
03/20/2010 I'm on my lap top at the moment and the one that's down is my pc desk top
Customer: replied 9 months ago.
my husband says we will take it to a shop and get it done
Customer: replied 9 months ago.
you cant fix it if the hard drive is bad so we will have to buy a new one right
Expert:  Quiksilver07070 replied 9 months ago.

okay....and the desktop PC that is was purchased/manufactured in 2010? that correct

Which would make it about 6 years old now.

Yeah it would make sense that a hard drive would fail at about this time.

Do you use it often? Do you leave it ON most of the time?

Even if you didnt do these coudl still fail after 6 years.

Yeah, that error message is saying that it cant find the Windows Operating system BOOT files. Which means that th ehard drive is off line......or the drive is corrupted.......or broken IN SOME WAY.

But it says this in a basic way because only the System motherboard works, because the Operating Systema (Windows) is offline (not working, or open, or running....however you want to look at it.) and that only has simple error messages like it cant find boot files. It wont come out and TELL you the drive isnt working......for all it knows......there isnt a drive connected......i mean if it doesnt recognize, or spin up, or work at all.

So.........yeah, you HAVE to put a new hard drive in the computer.....then and ONLY THEN can you put Windows back on the drive, and get the computer working again.

it is a pretty big task to replace a hard drive.......not for the technicall unsavy unfortunately.

But hey atleast NOW YOU KNOW what the problem is.....thats gotta be worth something?

\Please take a moment to rate at the top of the page.Thank you!

ok we will look into just getting a new one I wasn't aware that it was this old, thank you

All the data on the old drve......gone.....just to be frank.

Its like the tires on your you WAIT til the tire blows to replace it?

Or do you go into the shop every so many miles to replace the tires?

Using this concept will hep safeguard yoru data.

And ofcourse Backups.....ofcourse.

Expert:  Quiksilver07070 replied 9 months ago.

best to backup your data.....and replce moving parts (Fans, spinning hard drives, DVD drives) every 3-5 years.

Keep your desktop clean too.......blow it out with Compressed air to keep the dust out.....this helps to keep the air moving and keep it cool.

Overheating causes premature failures of hardware....just FYI
