The printer will not print, the setting reads it is on

hi the printer will not print, the setting reads it is on maintenance and we cannot change. It also says print head is not installed. Can you help please
JA: What's the exact make and model of your printer, and can you guesstimate how old it is?
Customer: Hi it is a Canon i905D
JA: What kind of computer are you printing from (Mac or PC)? What Operating System (OS) are you running?
Customer: Hi it is a Mac the printer has been excellent for a number of years
JA: How long has this been an issue? What happened right before this popped up?
Customer: Hi, yes it stopped functioning a day ago. Prior to that I cleaned the ink heads and returned them to their positions. I have done this in the past.
JA: Anything else you want the printer expert to know before I connect you?

This issue can be a hardware failure but let's try some things first:

Reseat the print head per the images and let me know if the issue continues

Hi we have done that step unloaded and reloaded the print head. We have also turned printer off and on again.

How old is the printer?

Unfortunately, if the reseat did not work and neither did the power on/off then it has hardware failure and would need to be repaired/replaced. To repair the printer would cost between $150-$300 depending on the part/labor for the issue. For cheaper, you can buy a brand new printer with a 1 year warranty.

It is always up to the customer to decide if they would like to repair or replace their device but I would recommend replacing it.

I am not sure what you are asking with your last request -- If the computer is not recognizing the printer (which will happen since the printer has hardware failure) then you cannot change settings on it.
