JA: Can you guesstimate how old your HP is? And just to clarify, what's the exact model?

There is only one known way to bypass the message and that is to locate the printer CMOS battery, and temporarily remove it, and then put it back in, which should clear the settings.

Where the battery is can vary from printer to printer, so you may need to do some digging on where your battery is at online.
