Dell 1320c with exclamation point...
Dell 1320c with exclamation point flashing. Won't print. will print a test page though when I hold down the continure button
JA: Can you guesstimate how old your Dell is? And just to clarify, what's the exact model?
Customer: 10 years. More specific than 1320 c>
JA: What kind of computer are you printing from (Mac or PC)? What Operating System (OS) are you running?
Customer: pc, win 7
JA: How long has this been an issue? What happened right before this popped up?
Customer: a while, I tried to fix months ago and gave up
JA: Anything else you want the printer expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: i don't think so

Months ago. I don't remember the details now. We may have changed toner. Not sure.

If I hold the "Continue" button, the printer will print a status page. When I attempt to send from my computer, the error is initiated. I can clear it by hitting cancel and then continue. However, as soon as I try to print again, the error returns. The status on my computer indicates the printer is ready.

The Factory Reset, Sir or Madam. Please see bellow:

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Open the upper front door.
  3. Press and hold Continue (u) and Cancel (X) as you turn the printer on. All the lights will cycle.
  4. Release Continue (u) and Cancel (X).
  5. Close cover once the error light is displayed.

Now all the lights are on and the error light is flashing.

Ok, follow these steps below:

To restore the factory settings:

1. Ensure that the printer is turned off.

2. Open the side cover.

3. While holding down the Continue and Cancel buttons at the same time, turn on the printer.

4. After all the indicators are turned on, release the Continue and Cancel buttons.

5. After the Continue, Error, and Ready/Data indicators go out, close the side cover.

The printer automatically:

Initializes the non-volatile memory (NVM).

CAUTION:

Never attempt to turn off the printer. The printer will cease to function.

Restarts.

l

Prints the Printer Settings and Device Settings pages.

l

6. Check if the factory settings are restored by referring to the Printer Settings and Device Settings pages.

Unusual problem after years of service and 7000+ pages. Board errors tend to happen early in the life of a device unless there is some sort of shock or water.

Drum or other mechanical part would make more sense. Seems like there would be a code system with the unit to tell what the blinking light means.

OK, now. There is an issue know as " Mean Time Between Failure."

This is what is the issue. Your Printer is only rated at 5, 000 or so Pages, Sir or Madam.
