I have a Canon Pixma MG2920 printer getting error code 5B00 and I can not fix it. Can you help?

Can you please remove the power to the printer (so unplug it from the power socket).

Then wait 10 minutes, connect the power again to the printer, turn it on and tell me please if it is now operating correctly.

I had it unplugged all night hoping it would reset but no luck. I have it unplugged again now.

ok, then please do the following Kathy

  • Turn off the printer
  • Open the cover
  • Turn on the printer
  • Wait for print carriage to start moving to the left and let it go past half way
  • Before print carriage reaches left hand side (but after going halfway across) shut the cover.
  • Leave the Printer turned on.

And tell me if the error clears please

The print carriage hasn't moved since the problem started. It is on the left side.

ok, do this please

  • Unplug the power cable.
  • Open the printer
  • Push the whole print head mechanic to the center
  • While the printer still open, plug the power and turn it ON.
  • When the printhead still moving and is going to the very LEFT, close the cover.
  • Wait until its boot up.

Tell me if it then clears please.

It's still not rebooting. I can move them, but they will not move at all.

It is the internal mainboard that has faulted. This now confirms it

I am really sorry about this and you are going to have to return the printer to have this replaced. It will be covered by the warranty if this has not expired, and the replacement will be done at no cost to you.

nothing can be done? all I did was change the ink.

No sorry, the mainboard has failed and this will need to be replaced.

I paid $23 to find out I need to replace a $29 printer. that sucks

I am sorry you feel this way, all I can do is go through all possible causes and rule them out to confirm the problem.

This is what we did and what you paid for. If we were only paid for fixing an issue, no one would have taken your question due to the possibility of it not being resolvable.
