Epson wf 3640 printer produces smeared type when printing black some lines on each page (almost like grunge type). Have cleaned head numerous times to no effect.

Hello, I’m Nathan, and I’ll be assisting you today. My livelihood depends on your positive feedback, so your satisfaction is my highest priority.

Sorry to hear you’re having trouble.

Does it happen on photos as well?
What about on copies?
What type of ink are you using?
What type of paper are you using?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Photos seem OK.
Printer generated pages, e.g. network information, seem OK.
Using Epson ink, Staples 92 bright copy paper (happened with Hammermill also).
Happens with black & white and color copies of a black and white page.

Just tried printing a photo of a printed page gray scale on plain paper. There are horizontal bars with lighter type and background. They run across the page, edge to edge, at irregular intervals and widths. The photographed type prints without blurring. Am I making sense?
Expert:  Nathan replied 1 year ago.

Yes, that makes sense.

There are a few possible causes, this could be an alignment issue, but could also be a printhead fault.

Run the nozzle clean (deep clean) at least once more, black only is fine.

Then run through the alignment process in the maintenance menu.

Also make sure your paper settings are on plain (not photo) paper.

Let me know how that works out.

Understood. I will do that in the morning and get back to you.
