Then, why do you have waited for this long time, this is a logic board problem and unforutnately it cannot be solved without replacing the board and as the printer is under warranty period, Epson will replace the printer free of cost.

I was hoping to avoid this but I guess I will have to go back to Epson.

Yes, unfortunately it is true, as this is a hardware fault of the printer and you should not spend money to repair the printer.
