I have a HP 1012 printer. I am getting an error message Unsupported Personality: PCL.

What is the problem?

I was told that the proplem has someting to do with drivers. Is this the problem?

According to Microsoft and HP this printer does not have a driver for Windows 7, as referenced here:http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Details.aspx?type=Hardware&p=HP%20LaserJet%201012%20Laser%20Printer&v=HP&uid=Q2461AABA&l=en-US&pf=0&pi=0&s=1012&os=64-bit

 

However there is a work around if you are up to it.

 

1. Download the file here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=377934&prodNameId=306510&swEnvOID=2100&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=lj-67501-1 (click on the gray Download button)

2. Extract the files from the download to a folder on your desktop.

3. In the Devices and Printers window in the Control Panel, right click your printer and then select Properties. Change to the Hardware tab.
4. Here, double click the IEEE 1284.4 Printing Support line to open up its properties. Notice that all the buttons on the Driver tab except Driver Details are greyed out.
5. Click the Change Settings button on the General tab. Now this dialog will close and reopen.
6. Change to the Driver tab again, and click Update Driver.
7. Click Browse my Computer for Driver Software.
8. On the page that opens, select Let me pick from a list...
9. Then click the Browse button and navigate to the folder containing the drivers you extracted earlier and select the file hpc1015w.inf. If you have hidden file extensions it should be the only file visible.
