Shall I redue the multiple steps using ij632, not ij632en?

If the printer name is XXXXX XXXXX in the Printer and faxes window, it is properly installed.

Restart the computer once and then try a test print

Good afternoon: Some 12 hours ago I initiated a need for help to get my HP LaserJet 6p to respond to my computer and print something, anything at all...but after 3 hours on the line replying to Santonu, I was unable to function anymore and badly needed sleep...it was about 3am when we stopped. At that time the printer still was not printing.

Over an hour ago I resumed and this is what I found:

I disconnected the HP-IB cable from my computer (a Dell-PP04X) and connected it to an old Compaq computer I had handy, unused basically for at least a year. I thought I might at least see if it could send data to the printer. SURPRISE OF SURPRISES...I was able to print several documents immediately upon sending the data to the printer.

Obviously, then, the problem does not seem to be in the printer, but somewhere in the data collected and sent from the Dell!

So I am ready to resume the work begun late last night (with Santonu) and probably concentrate on some sort of data error within the Dell computer that is causing the error.

Probably, Santanu is not working yet today. If he is, great: please connect me with him. If he is not available, please give this continuing request for help to another person in you group.

Technician: AnswerManCharles, Technician replied 8 years ago
Can you print a test page from the printer?
Ask Your Own Printers Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago

No --- the Test Page does not print, as I just said. I have also tried to print one of my legal papers, a form I use daily, and it doesn't print either. I am right back to where I started.

I am able to print from another computer to the HP laserjet 6p....but not from the Dell that I use 4-5 hours daily.

Technician: AnswerManCharles, Technician replied 8 years ago

How are you printing from the other computer, how is it connected?

How is the Dell connected?

Ask Your Own Printers Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago

Printing from both computers in an identical fashion: HP-IB cable out from the cmptr to HP-IB port in on the printer. Only the physical printer is the same in both situations. I have also swapped out the HP-IB cable in use when all this started with another HP-IB. The result is the same....old computer prints....my daily computer (DELL) doesn't. I have been thinking about copying the file from the old computer and pasting it to the DELL. MY thought is that perhaps there is a newer rendition now in use and it is not working well or compatible etc etc. whereas the old one works! What do you think of copying the old to the new?

Technician: AnswerManCharles, Technician replied 8 years ago

Copying new to old is probably a bad idea.

Try using the Apple LaserWriter NT driver.

1. Open the print properties,

2. select advanced

3. select new driver

4. select apple

5. select LaserWriter NT

6. select next

once you have this set as the driver apply/ok

try to print the test page.

To CHARLES_EBS

It is now late Saturday afternoon, just about 5pm Pacific Daylight Time....time to take one more chance to get my answer on how to fix communications between my Dell computer and the HP LaserJet 6p.

Since last Wednesday I basically have not been able to do my legal work on my computer, that is, I can't print any of it. I resulted to trying to see if I could make a copy and send it to an old floppy disk...I could and it was saved on the disc. then I unplugged the floppy and connected it to my old Compaq laptop. Sending the just saved document to the very same HP LaserJet 6p worked just fine.

So my evaluation is this: My documents are fine on the Dell. They are not corrupted by sending a copy to another computer by saving on the floppy, unplugging the floppy and then opening it on another computer, where is is fully intact (not corrupted a dot!) and will print out on the HP LaserJet 6p.

Secondarily, there must be a problem with the HP LaserJet 6p printer file.
That is the only difference in the interaction of a document meant to be printed. So this is what I am going to do. I will delete the Printer driver from the list. I will then shut off the computer and wait a few minutes (not that time really would be a problem item). I will then reselect the printer driver from 1 of at least 3 sources. I will test each one of the drivers to see if I can communicate with the printer (I am using the same physical cable) for printing from the Dell and from the Compaq. I will be back on line at 7pm Pacific time tonight. Hope you are there and can ANSWER MY QUESTION, and really, I know how hard you have tried. Hope to talk to you at 7pm PDST tonight.

Technician: AnswerManCharles, Technician replied 8 years ago

I believe the problem is being caused by IE8. I have had several HP printers with the same symptom and one report of problem solved after uninstalling IE8. I would try uninstalling IE8.

1. Stop, clear and start print spooler:

Click Start> Run> cmd > click OK

Type: net stop spooler <enter>

Type: del /f C:Windows\System32\spool\printers\*.* <enter>
Type: net start spooler <enter>

2. Download the driver, here is the link:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=14999&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=25479&swLang=8&swEnvOID=228

3. Install the driver and hopefully it works.

There are too many people having problems with older model HP printers for this not to be a windows update problem.
