"For John" need help Using Exponential Functions:

a. Investing is an important topic for individuals in all areas. Suppose you wish to invest $10,000 in a money market account that earns 4% interest compounded annually. How much would the investment be worth after 10 years? Show all calculations.

b. Now, suppose that the above investment earns interest compounded quarterly. How much would the same investment be worth after 10 years? Why does the result differ from the previous one?

Logarithms:

a. One important application of logarithms is found in various computer search routines. For example a binary search algorithm on a table (or array) of data takes a maximum of log2n ("log base2,ofn") steps to complete, where n is the number of data elements that can be searched. How many steps (at most) are needed for a search of a table with 16 elements? 512 elements? Explain.

b. The approximation of the natural logarithm of 2: In2~0.693 is commonly used by applied scientists, biologists, chemists, and computer scientists. Based on this approximation and the power rule of logarithmic expressions, how could you approximate in 8, without a calculator? Explain.

Linear System of Equations: Suppose that in one week, your company takes in $2,220 in sales at one of its cell phone stores. The price breakdown per phone is as follows:

Cell phone model A4:$35

Smartphone Z20:$50

Suppose that a total of 51 phones were sold.

a. Set up the system of equations that needs to be solved to determine how many of each type of phone were sold. Give a clear definition of the variables in the system.

b. Solve the system of equations, showing clearly how the solution was determined, and state the results clearlyu in light of the real-world situation.

c. Verify your results of the 2 linear equations by graphing in the desired graphing program.

d. Explain how the results are verified by the graph.
