have a 1997 993. installed a new alternator and a new battery. voltage meter does not read higher then 12 running at 3k RPM.
JA: Have you tested the battery with a voltmeter? And can you see if it's leaking or not?

JA: What is the model of your '97 Porsche?
Customer: targa
JA: Are you fixing your Targa yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: fixing ourselves. replaced alternator from Pelican Parts, installed new battery all cleaned terminals and ground cable in trunk
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: you have that it is reading 12 on the meter. Running or not.

Check or replace the fuse #18 in the central electric.

Here is the Charging System Wiring Diagram. Make sure you have battery voltage with the key off at the B+ terminal on the alternator and also battery voltage at the D+ when the key is on run, engine off.
