Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

It's possible that you have a deeper issue but it sounds as if the battery is dead. If applying power with a charger reliably turns the trunk light on that tells me that the battery is dead and the trunk lights are running off power from the charger. It sounds like you're using something like a battery maintainer which will only supply a few amps and not enough to actually charge a battery.

Do you have a digital voltmeter?
