What does the red mark on my swimming pool heater pilot mean?

You turn the indicator to the red
mark when lighting the pilot light.

With the red marking...Is the pilot natural gas or propane? I'm talking about the pilot..this is where the gas comes out down by the burners. I did not mention anything about a "

red light"

Sorry I dont think I mentioned a red light.
That aside the red paint at the point of flame
is just to mark the orifice in case the pilot
has to be manually lit.
There is no way of telling the gas type
without removing the orifice.
Propane units usually always have an outside storage tank.
Natural gas has a meter . Customer
