Engine overheats. Fans do not go on when temperature reaches normal operating temperature however the temperature gauge never goes above normal operating temperature

If the fans work and the gauge is working, what makes you think it is overheating?

Actually the fans don't work. And I know it's overheating because the coolant from the reservoir is steaming out the overflow tube. Yet the temperature gauge on the - never goes above 200ﾟ. But it also rises to 200ﾟ very quickly.

OK, I would replace the thermostat and the cap as well. If the cap is bad, it will spill over to the surge tank.

The heating up fast could be the thermostat.

Not seeing the proper signal from the collant sensor.

Do the fans come on with the AC on? Have you tested the fans to see if they work?

That was the next thing on my list was to check the fans. The temperature gauge is not accurate however.That's why I thought it was the Sensor net sending The correct hot end to the computerI thought that would account for the incorrect temperature gauge in the fans not coming on.

If you have an infrared temperature gun, take the temp of the engine at operating temp and match it to the gauge.

OK, then the fans are good.

With the key on, engine off, remove the connector to the coolant sensor and see if the fans kick on.

If they do, then the electrical end of the fans is working and the issue points back to the motor.

If they do not, then it is an electrical control issue with the fans.

That is where I would start, yes.

Check the connector and make sure the pins are clean and tight.

No.I understand that GM is notorious for bad thermostatsI plugged the sensor back in, the fans are still on

OK, check that connector and make sure you have a good quality coolant sensor.

Either one. I would get another sensor and get the pigtail for the sensor. They have them at the parts stores.

No need. The fans work with it disconnected. You can check it but it will be good.
