Customer Question
My emmissions 1 fuze...

My emmissions 1 fuze keeps blowing

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model/year of your Pontiac?

08 grand prix gxp

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Grand Prix yourself? What have you tried so far?

I've tried disconnecting 02 sensors and the evap canister and purge valve then replacing the fuse, as soon as I turn the key to turn on Electrical power it blows

Mechanic's Assistant: Is the car in "Park" or "Neutral?" Do you know if your car has a "wheel lock" feature?

Park and I do not

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

I've also checked the fuze box, taken it apart verifies wires coming from us not damaged.

Thanks any ideas

This fuse powers the oxygen sensors and the purge solenoid. Disconnect each component one at a time to see if fuse stops blowing, if so replace whatever component stops fuse from blowing when unplugged. If it still blows with all 3 unplugged that means the pink/black wire that goes between fuse and one of components is shorting out, most likely one of oxygen sensors. You will need to follow wire to find damage. Here is also a wiring diagram to help with testing. My goal is to provide 5 star service so please let me know if you have any questions, thanks.

I disconnected them 1 at a time and when I blew the fuse again I reconnected and moved to the next, do i need to leave them all disconnected?
Pontiac Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 2 months ago

You can reconnect it and move to the next. let me know if you have more questions, thanks.

Its blowing fuse after all have been checked so it must be the wiring somewhere?
Pontiac Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 2 months ago

That is correct and usually wiring near oxygen sensor since they run by exhaust and exhaust manifolds which are common to melt wire. So you will want to follow the pink/black wires from oxygen sensors to see if you can find damage. Let me know if you have more questions, thanks.
