Hi

Texting is fine for now
Pontiac Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 5 months ago

At the drivers side brake light the black wire should have ground and the dark green wire should have power while pressing brake pedal. the brake pedal position sensor sends signal to the body control module and the body control modue sends power to the lights. If good power/ground at connector replace bulbs. If missing power then your body control module has probably failed which is about a $500 repair at dealership. Since the middle brake light works we know the brake sensor is sending proper signal to the body control module. My goal is to provide 5 star service so please let me know if you have any questions, thanks.

What color wire am I looking for?
Pontiac Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 5 months ago

At the rear drivers side brake light the dark green wire is power and black wire is ground. Let me know if you have questions, thanks.

The right rear has a green wire
Pontiac Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 5 months ago

Sorry about that, so right rear has green and left rear has yellow. Let me know if you have questions, thanks.

Brown black & green on right side. Yellow brown & black on left
Pontiac Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 5 months ago

That is correct, I had sides mixed up. So if power/ground are good then inspect connectors and replace bulbs. If missing power then the body control module will need to be replaced. You can disconnect battery for 10 minutes to try and reset module for a possible temporary fix.

Where is this control module?
Pontiac Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 5 months ago

It is located under the center console. Here is a picture of module and wiring diagram to help with testing. Let me know if you have questions, thanks.

What if the blinkers work?

Dan
Pontiac Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 5 months ago

That would leave body control module as only possible cause proving wiring and bulbs are good. Let me know if you have questions, thanks.

How much would that cost me? If I replaced it myself? Vs taking it to get done?
Pontiac Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 5 months ago

The dealership needs to reprogram it to vin so they will need to install but you can buy part yourself to save a couple hundred. Give me a few minutes to pull up info to buy yourself.

I saw it for like 165. How much would it cost to program it
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
Awesome. Thanks. I'll keep in touch if I need anything else
Pontiac Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 5 months ago

It is about $100 for them to install/program it. The link I sent you above is $125 and they would probably accept a $100 offer.

Well I just double checked. The rear blinkers don't work
Pontiac Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 5 months ago

Body control module is still the most likely cause but you would want to check for power/ground at bulbs first if good replace bulbs. If missing power then verify wiring is good between body control module and bulbs, if wiring is good then replace body control module. Let me know if you have questions, thanks.

Most auto part stores can check voltage for me?
Pontiac Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 5 months ago

No auto parts store will check voltage, you will need to buy test light or multimeter to do the testing yourself.

Ask Your Own Pontiac Question
Pontiac Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 5 months ago

You could just replace a bulb to see if it helps if not then it would be a pretty safe assumption that the body control module has failed.
