The blower motor keeps running after the car is turned off…

Customer Question
The blower motor keeps...

The blower motor keeps running after the car is turned off and the key is taken out. It also makes a horrible grinding/vibrating sound. Looking for location of any resistor or relay that can be removed to temporarily address the situation, as the blow motor killed the car battery.

Mechanic's Assistant: Is the car in "Park" or "Neutral?" Do you know if your car has a "wheel lock" feature?

The car is in "Park", but regarding the "wheel lock" feature, I am not sure.

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model/year of your Pontiac?

2007 Pontiac G6 GT

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your G6 GT yourself? What have you tried so far?

I am going to try, and I have yet to try anything. I just got home from work, and the car battery was dead when I got here, so I'll need to jump it before I can diagnose/detect anything. The car is my girlfriend's, who has been home today and let me know about the problem over the phone today.

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

The blower motor (or at least I assume it's the blower motor) makes this nasty loud grinding sound when the heat/AC is turned on and the car hits any minor bump in the road. It only happens when the heat/AC is on, and it can last anywhere from 5 to 15 seconds. Apparently it started when my girlfriend pulled into our driveway and never stopped once she turned off the car.

Okay, I will remove that to keep the car alive. Any thoughts/knowledge on what would react poorly to vibration and cause a grinding noise when the blower is running?

ok, the first thing I would like you to do is to remove the panel underneath the passenger side dash. then remove the electrical connectors for the blower motor and the blower motor resistor. inspect the connectors for any signs of melting, arcing, or moisture.

Hows it going?

I removed the blower control fuse, but when I went to jump the vehicle, the grinding continued as soon as I connected the battery. I will have to try and remove the connectors tomorrow. Hopefully I can figure out how to resolve the issue then. Thank you for your help!
Pontiac Mechanic: david craig, ASE Certified Technician replied 7 months ago

its not the blower motor doing that then. it may be an actuator for the HVAC.
