Customer Question
Injector 3 and 4...

Injector 3 and 4 have a very dim light on the noid test for the wiring to the injectors

Mechanic's Assistant: Just to clarify, what are the exact lights you're talking about?

Noid light tester

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model/year of your Pontiac?

1999 grand am 2.4L SE

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Grand Am yourself? What have you tried so far?

Yes, engine will start and run, but run rough when idleing and while in gear. when you get higher rpm's the engine runs fine. Ohm'ed the injectors all 2.3 and noid test. 1 and 2 when bright and flashing on noid test, 3 and 4 are very dim on the noid test, cannot tell if flashing

Pontiac Mechanic: david craig, ASE Certified Technician replied 8 months ago

ok, you are going to need to ohm out the injector wiring for #3 and #4 from the connectors to the pcm. to see if there is high resistance on those wires

Ask Your Own Pontiac Question
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
resistance is good
Pontiac Mechanic: david craig, ASE Certified Technician replied 8 months ago

whats the resistance?

Ask Your Own Pontiac Question
Pontiac Mechanic: david craig, ASE Certified Technician replied 8 months ago

so you did a continuity test?

Ask Your Own Pontiac Question
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
all around 2 ohms
Pontiac Mechanic: david craig, ASE Certified Technician replied 8 months ago

i'm not talking about checking the injectors... i'm talking about disconnecting the connectors for the injectors and the pcm and checking continuity between the wiring, and if that's what you did then 2 ohms is too high...did you check each injector wire to ground also to see if there's a high resistance to ground?

Ask Your Own Pontiac Question
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
all are .35-.41
Pontiac Mechanic: david craig, ASE Certified Technician replied 8 months ago

ok, now check each wire for high resistance from only one end but still both connectors disconnected.

Ask Your Own Pontiac Question
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
where do you check the high resistance?
Pontiac Mechanic: david craig, ASE Certified Technician replied 8 months ago

ok, you have each injectors connector disconnected. you have the pcm connector disconnected. now from the injectors connector you put one meter lead in the connector and make sure its making contact with the contact. then you put the other meter lead to a ground. tell me what the ohms readings are.

Ask Your Own Pontiac Question
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
unfortunately I had to go to work. what is the reading for high resistance? if it is high, what do I do? if it is all right, what do I do?
Pontiac Mechanic: david craig, ASE Certified Technician replied 8 months ago

ill be on all day. just let me know when you get to it. thanks

Ask Your Own Pontiac Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
i got 2.4 on the high resistance to ground on all.
Pontiac Mechanic: david craig, ASE Certified Technician replied 7 months ago

is that with the pcm connectors diconnected?

Ask Your Own Pontiac Question
Pontiac Mechanic: david craig, ASE Certified Technician replied 7 months ago

ok, theres a short to ground somewhere

Ask Your Own Pontiac Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
how do you find that?
Pontiac Mechanic: david craig, ASE Certified Technician replied 7 months ago

its not going to be easy. you need to start inspecting the fuel inector wires from the injectors and follow them looking for the damage/chaffing

whats my next move?
Pontiac Mechanic: david craig, ASE Certified Technician replied 7 months ago

the pcm isnt giving enough voltge to fire #3 and #4 or the connectors for those 2 injectors are corroded inside.

Ask Your Own Pontiac Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
can I switch the injectors around to verify?
