Customer Question
2006 Gran Prix v6 3800...
2006 Gran Prix v6 3800, ran out of gas and when stopped it sputtered out and died. Hasn't started since - put plenty of gas in it. noticed a cracked coil pack and replaced it with Delphi brand one which I was just informed it cracked the first time tried to start.

okay gary, I am at work and waiting for an answer...
Pontiac Mechanic: Gary, Pontiac Technician replied 8 months ago

if it has spark at the plugs when cranking it over then see if the engine will run on starting fluid

if the engine will run on starting fluid that it is missing fuel have the fuel pressure tested next at the fuel rail on the engine of no pressure then at the fuel pump we need to see of we have power and ground if you do then the fuel pump is bad

we tried ether in the intake, the fuel pump hums 3-5 seconds, when key turned on but not to start so its getting fuel. being told I need a new control module and coil packs .. I just replaced this 6 months ago and it was done b4 bought car used about 6 months b4 that??
Pontiac Mechanic: Gary, Pontiac Technician replied 8 months ago

be sure the fuel pressure at the engine is good if it is you need to check for spark at the plugs if no spark then usually its a bad module or crank sensor causing a no spark issue

ok, but what would cause a brand new coil pack to crack upon first attempt to start? and what would cause me having to replace module every 6 months?? I am using Delphi parts
Pontiac Mechanic: Gary, Pontiac Technician replied 8 months ago

a cracked coil is a psychical defect

as for modules every 6 months is usually a coil on top with high resistance

to stop this a new module and 3 new coil usually fixes this issue
