I'm a former engine mechanic, but got out of the trade 20 years ago. I bought this car new in '04 and then swapped the motor out after rebuilding it in 2012 due to the bad lower intake manifold gaskets GM used. Recently had a parasitic drain on the system and started diagnosing it today. Using a test light I unhooked the positive battery cable and used the test light between the positive cable and the positive terminal. Test light was on and I started to remove fuses one at a time and replacing them as I went. Light never went out with any of the fuses in side the cab. Light did go out after removing 30 amp fuse for L/H BEC BATT2 in the under hood fuse box. Putting that fuse back in the test light came back on. Going back to cab fuse box I removed 10 amp fuse for IPC/HVAC BATT is cause the test light to flash along with instrument panel gauge needles bouncing up and down as the test light flashed. I then removed 10 amp fuse for BFC BATT and test light went out. What could cause this??

The body control module and theft deterrent module are both powered by that fuse. Unplug each module one at a time to see which one stops battery drain then replace as needed. Let me know if you have more questions, thanks.

I thought that too about the BCM I unplugged all three plugs to it and the test light stayed on. I did not know about the Theft Deterrent Module. Where is that located?

Excellent Thank you. I'll unplug it tomorrow and see if it makes the test light go out. Until then have a great day

Nothing like that in the area. I found something close and unplugged it but light is still flashing
Customer reply replied 10 months ago
Test light is flashing just to be clear
