Customer Question
My 08 pontiac grand...

My 08 pontiac grand prix stopped running last night while driving on the highway. Cranks but wont start. Checked fuel pressure, fuel relay and spark plugs. Can't figure out why it wont start?

Mechanic's Assistant: How many miles are on the vehicle? And when was it last serviced?

168k, hasn't been serviced since 138k

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Grand Prix yourself? What have you tried so far?

I checked the fuel relay, tested fuel pressure, and ran an OBD scan to see if there were any codes. Got 55 psi for fuel pressure

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

Not that I can think of

sorry. Would being out of timing affect starting the car though? It was not running "hard" while driving before I lost all engine power. What about and issue with throttle body or MAF?
Pontiac Mechanic: Roy Belding, ASE Certified Technician replied 11 months ago

if the timing is off, valve timing that is, it will never start.

no the throttle body or map. they are electronic controlled and would code if there was an issue

Ok. I will try to check compression pressures. Is there anything else besides timing that could prevent engine from firing if my compression ratios are good?
Pontiac Mechanic: Roy Belding, ASE Certified Technician replied 11 months ago

you need 3 things for an engine to run.

fuel spark and compression.

once they are verified then we can move on to checking injectors for being commanded on from the pcm

OK. I will have to come back to the site after I go check the compression because I don't have gauges handy. Thank you for your help so far.
