Idles to low. Idle surges when stationary.
JA: How many miles are on the car? What size is the engine?
Customer: 190k 3.4l v6
JA: What is the model/year of your Pontiac?
Customer: 2001 pontiac grand am gt coupe
JA: Are you fixing your Grand Am yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I am. Its always had a very low idle sense i bought it. Ive sense had problem codes and replaced cam and crank shaft position sensors. All o2 sensors. Recently replaced alternator. New plugs and wires. New air filter and oil change. I got a code saying its running 4% lean.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

Hi Im David, thanks for visiting the site, remove the Idle Air control valve, clean it out extremely well with carb cleaner, put it back on. that should clear up the surging idle. what code do you have?

I dont have the codes at hand. It idles at 500rpm and goes as high as 650rpm and back down. Cold start it fires right up. Once the engine is warm i have to crank it longer to keep it running. Where is the idle air control valve located?
