Pontiac Problems? Ask a Mechanic for Answers ASAP
Sorry about the robot assistant. She see's the word "brake" and starts running the script for brake fluid.
What model is your pontiac?
I'm sorry, I need the model.
G3, G6, G5, G8, Montana, Solstice, Torrent, Vibe...?
So you should have a fuse in the underhood fuse box marked Stop lamp. You need a multimeter or a test light to see if you are getting 12 volts to that fuse with the key in the on position and the brake pressed.
It might be labeled fuse #27 rather than "stop lamp". I can't remember if pontiac labels them with names or numbers in 2009.
They both work on the same switch, but because the top light uses LED bulbs it runs straight from the relay and bypasses the fuse.
From the fuse each light uses a separate positive and wire so if both the left and right are not working then the problem has to be in the fuse or in the printed circuit board from the fuse to the connector under the fuse box.
Sorry, we had a fire drill and had to clear the building.
The relay is part of the circuit board. So if you are getting power to the high brake light then the relay is good.
I will be here this evening to check and see if you need additional info.
