97 grand prix... replacing blower motor resistor with dorman

Customer Question

97 grand prix... replacing blower motor resistor with dorman brand resistor and new pigtail assy. problem is original pigtail connectoer has 3 terminals/wires and the dorman pigtail/connector has 8 terminals/wires... no instructions came with pigtail assy... trying to find what wires to splice into original?
JA: Have you checked all the fuses? Do you have a wiring diagram?
Customer: no wiring diagram... haven't checked fuses yet because blower motor was fried. i've got a new motor but resistor has to go in first. i wanted to replace all parts.
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: removed blower motor and resistor... have replacement parts. stumped with wiring connecotr differences. i assumed the pgitail assy would come with intructions, but no
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: no. seems like an easy fix. watched u-tube videos. didn't see the wiring differences until i opened up new pigtail w/o instructions

Hello I will help you with your question,

I think you have the wrong part. Is your temperature control where you set a number and it controls the blower and the vents to keep that temperature?

What is the part number?

Both perilla and auto zone said I have the "manual" type of havoc controls... They said the pigtail (8 terminal connector) would have to be spliced in to the existing 4 terminal connector (3 wires)

That is a blower transistor that you need, you have a blower resistor for a manual system.

You need a 973564 Dorman part to match your climate control system not the manual resistor you have

Let me know how I can help

Thank you
