Pontiac Problems? Ask a Mechanic for Answers ASAP
Hi Im David, how did you check the refrigerant?
the proper way to check the refrigerant is with a manifold gauge set. those store bought cans with gauges are useless. and if its in the red, then you have too much in and some needs to be let out. until the pressures are proper there is no sense in going further. Ill be more than happy to help you with this problem when the correct pressure is in the system. that is first and foremost.
if the pressure is too high it will create hot air. high pressure=hot air., and it will shut down the compressor for component protection.
I noticed you said you had the solenoid replaced. which solenoid?
probably a purge solenoid?
so the vehicle isnt running now? or have you had that problem taken care of and now have the ac problem?
Ok. well what you need to do is to have the refrigerant at the proper pressures. if you want to use the gauge that you said was in the red, then first of all, you will need to let some refrigerant out. I highly recommend having a trained mechanic do this unless you have an evacuation machine. thanks
