I have a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire- it is rough while it is

Customer Question

I have a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire- it is rough while it is idling, and 2 times has stalled out..but starts right back up & then sometimes act like it is perfectly fine. I took it by an Autozone they used a handheld machine & said it was an ignition coil failure-took it to a regular garage they said it was a computer problem...I am now taking it to someone who works on Pontiacs tomorrow still concerned about response.. I have had a Celebrity Chevy in the past that had a computer problem but there was no moving it at all till new computer? I just don't want to be given wrong information about problem.

I have been a professional master mechanic for over 35 years and am happy to help you with this.

In almost all situations like this, its a fault with what is called the IAC valve (idle air control)

Also, usually all it needs is to be taken off and cleaned out :-)

If it needs replaced they cost right around 75 bucks.

My goal is that you are satisfied with my answer(s). I strive for a 5 star positive rating. It's the only way i get credit. You can still ask me questions for free after the rating.
