2001 grand prix se: a) hard shifts..whining noise..transmission shop

Resolved Question:

My 2001 grand prix se, 140000 miles:
a) hard shifts - when warm
b) runs hot - up and down Temp
c) makes a whining noise.
I'm going to take it to a transmission shop. What do you think?

An internal pressure issue is usually what causes both the hard shift and whining noise.

Most likely they will end up replacing the torque converter and if it shot a lot of metal through out the rest of the system it may need to be rebuilt but a lot of times if they flush it real good after replacing the converter it will take care of it. They will be able to tell. If you seen any tiny shiny flakes in the old fluid that ids a sure sign of the converter coming apart.
