Customer Question

I have a roommate water heater displaying a wire code on 10.
JA: How long has this been going on? And how severe is the problem?
Customer: No hot water. Plumber installed unit and said he tested it but now he won't answer the phone
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: Yes. I'm a general contractor but not a plumber.
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: I think this will be a simple fix of messing with the dip switches

A 10 error is a blocked exhaust vent ot air supply error

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
The vent is clear and connected. Is there another solution?
Expert:  Rick replied 1 month ago.

That's what the error indicates. If the combustion air supply is not a problem then there could be something in the fan that's restricting exhaust air flow.

Then the installe rhad no reason to touch the dip switches. The dip switch setting are only changed for high altitude installs.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Right now the number one switch is activated for both dspw1 and dspw2. All others are off. Is this correct?
Expert:  Rick replied 1 month ago.

I can't access the install manual at this time so I can't say.

Typical settings for most/all Rinnai models for under 2000' is 1 ON the rest off

To clarify the above refers to switch bank 1 which is the only bank related to venting. Do you have more questions?
