Customer Question

My electric water heater overheats the water and flips the reset button on the water heater. That makes me think its the thermostat. What do you think?
JA: How long has this been going on? And how severe is the problem?
Customer: About 2 months. It happens a couple times a week.
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: No I have a handyman/contractor who will do the work.
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: It doesn't affect the circuit breaker.

When this happens you have a bad thermostat. Since it could be either the upper or lower stat we change both since it's difficult and time consuming to pin down which is the culprit. Since thermostats are pretty cheap it's cost effective to just replace them both.
