My hot water heater (gas) is leaking heavily from vent surround
JA: How long has this been going on? And how severe is the problem?
Customer: Started last night, I was there minutes after it began. I turned everything off, as I turn on water. it streams out all around the vent
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: If possible
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: No leaks from either in or outlets, pressure relief seems to function properly

If the leak is coming from the vent not 1 of the piping connections then you need to replace the water heater.
